Cannabidiol, or CBD, is one of the compounds found in the cannabis plant called Cannabinoids.  It has been found to have an anti-inflammatory effect, reduce seizures in relation to epilepsy, help with anxiety and treat chronic pain.  It can be sold as a nutritional supplement now, but as it has been classified as a medicine and is undergoing studies, this may change in the future.

Q.  How does it work?

Everybody has an endocannabinoid system which regulates vital functions such as sleep, appetite, mood, memory, inflammation and reproduction.  Depletion of these natural chemicals are believed to be the cause of certain illnesses.  Taking CBD is shown to raise the levels of our own endocannabinoids, therefore helping the body to restore its balance.

Q. What is the difference between Hemp and Cannabis?

They are basically the same plant, except that Hemp has small amounts of THC and more CBD.

Q. If it’s related to Cannabis, is it legal in the UK?

Yes, CBD Oil is a legal product within the EU and US.

 Q. Can I use CBD to get ‘high’?

CBD does not contain THC which is the psychoactive property found in cannabis.  You can ingest CBD oil without the side effects associated with marijuana/cannabis.  You will not get ‘high’ using the products.  Some products have trace amounts of THC, such as <0.2% but as this is such a small amount, you will not get the same effects as if taking marijuana/cannabis.

Q. I’m taking medication now.  Is it safe to use with my prescribed drugs?

All our products are sold as food supplements to help promote everyday wellbeing.  If you have any medical issues or are taking medication, you should consult with your doctor before using CBD oil.

Q. Does it work and is it safe?

There have been human clinical trials conducted on CBD.  It has been shown to reduce episodes of schizophrenia and help ease social anxiety.  More extensive research has been carried out on the use of CBD on children who suffer from epilepsy.  There is a CBD based drug developed successfully called Epidiolex.

There have been, and continue to be, studies on the potential benefits of CBD.  So far, studies have shown that the benefits are as follows:

  • Natural Pain Relief
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Help with Quitting Smoking
  • Anti-seizure
  • Help to fight Cancer
  • Anti-anxiety (PTSD, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety, OCD, General Anxiety)
  • Type 1 Diabetes
  • Acne
  • Alzheimer’s Disease

Further studies/trials are needed before CBD can be officially classified as a treatment for these conditions.

No drug or supplement is without side effects.  Therefore, it is important for you to discuss any concerns with your doctor before taking CBD.  Some people have reported side effects such as diarrhea, changes in appetite and weight.  The most common side effect is tiredness.

Q. I’ve never taken it before.  What strength should I start with?

We have included the recommended dosage on each product as per the manufacturers guidance.  If you are unsure about how much you should be taking, speak to your doctor.
